Did you know that in 2010, 4,280 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes?
In 2011, an estimated 69,000 pedestrians were injured across the U.S., and 11,000 of those were 14 years old and younger (NHTSA).
Why are so many people injured annually in pedestrian accidents? In many instances, it is due to the negligent behavior of the driver ( distracted driving, road rage, etc.). Some situations arise, however, in which the pedestrian may have been able to avoid the accident if he or she had been properly educated in pedestrian safety.
As an experienced Brooklyn pedestrian accident injury attorney, I’m always searching for ways to help educate New York citizens about pedestrian safety. No person should have to suffer because of the negligent actions of a driver, and knowledge is the best protection against such harm.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has shared a video in their “Getting There Safely” series about pedestrian safety. Please take the time to watch and apply the safety tips discussed in the video: it may just save your life.
I would also encourage you to have your children watch this video. As mentioned in the aforementioned NHTSA statistics, nearly 16 percent of pedestrian accidents involve children. By watching this video, they can hopefully learn some safety tactics that will prevent an accident in the future.
If you have questions about pedestrian accidents in Brooklyn, or have been injured in a pedestrian accident and aren’t sure what to do next, contact an experienced New York personal injury attorney right away.
